FRANKFURT GALAXY 26, AMSTERDAM ADMIRALS 22 - Quarterback Paul Justin threw for 308 yards and a World Bowl record 3 touchdowns, two of which went to wide receiver Bobby Olive (6 receptions, 85 yards, 2TD) as the Frankfurt Galaxy defeated the Amsterdam Admirals 26-22 before a crowd of 23,847 at the Olympisch Stadion. After a scoreless first quarter, the Admirals blocked Galaxy Alcorn's 36-yard field goal attempt, setting up an impressive 12-play, 73-yard drive capped by a 5-yard scoring strike from quarterback Will Furrer to wide receiver Ernie Jones for a 7-0 lead. Before halftime Justin his Olive for an 11-yard touchdown with Galaxy kicker Darren Alcorn missing the PAT. Admirals running back T. C. Wright fumbled in the third quarter, leading to Justin's 4-yard touchdown pass to Olive. National kicker Ralf Kleinmann added the extra point for a 13-17 Galaxy lead. Justin then connected on a 31-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Bellamy to put Frankfurt 20-7 ahead.
Frankfurt capitalised on Amsterdam's second fumble of the game with Galaxy running back Nate Bolton charging into the endzone on a 30-yard run for a commanding 26-7 lead with 11:06 remaining in the game. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Furrer and the Admirals pulled within 12 points with running back Wright scoring on a 1-yard run. Then, on a 13-play 58-yard drive, Wright's 9-yard touchdown reception and wide receiver Sanjay Beach's 2-point conversion catch from Furrer put the Admirals only 4 points behind with 0:34 remaining. Amsterdam recovered the onside kick but Admirals quarterback Furrer saw consecutive passes into the endzone fall incomplete as time expired. Paul Justin was named the game's MVP. |
